AS computers become more powerful you can:
-Do the same thing faster
-do new things (still pictures, sound, movies, networking, searching virtual reality)

people are looking for "Killer Apps." Applications that will do the latest thing.

binary - data composed of bits

Operating system does 2 things:

manages hardware efficiantly.

What is real mode?
When your Pentium 4 pretends to be an 8086 chip.

Enhanced Mode, when your running windows NT

What does POST mean?

What happens to ROM when you turn the computer off?
Bits are still there

What happens to ram when the computer is turned off?
Bits disaapear

1) Computers use binary because they’re made up of binary devices with two states [on and off]
